The nation of Judah was much like our nation today. They decided that God was not sovereign, that he had no business in their affairs. When the man of God would speak on His behalf, he was often arrested, tried, beaten, or jailed. What they did not realize, and neither do we, is that when God’s servants are mistreated, it’s really because people hate God. So they take out their frustrations on those who speak according to his word. This is a powerful chapter and one that will enlighten the eyes of the discerning.

The judgment of God is not a subject that the world ponders often if at all. Most belief systems do not include a being that oversees everything and repays those who are wicked and unjust to the face. Even if the judgment of God is of no interest to you, you will not escape it. Though you refuse to talk about it, think about it, or even consider it, it is real and you will be judge. In this chapter of Jeremiah, God through Jeremiah is foretelling their judgment and destruction despite those who said it would never happen.
